- Two doses usually given 4-8 weeks apart.
- How is it given:
- The vaccine is usually given in your upper arm.
- Side effects:
- Common side effects include soreness at the injection site, headache, fever, tiredness and digestive problems. In some cases, you may notice a mild chickenpox rash as well.
- Age:
- The vaccine is suitable for anyone from the age of 1 to the age of 65. Recommended for anyone who has not had chickenpox.
Chickenpox is a common viral illness which is most commonly seen in young children. The virus is not dangerous, however can have unpleasant effects such as, itching, cause high fevers and can leave the skin scarred.
Most people will be affected by the disease in their childhood, however it is possible to catch the disease as an adult as well.
To prevent yourself or your child from having the disease, a vaccine is available for anyone over the age of 1.
Chickenpox vaccination is given as 2 doses, with a space of 4-8 weeks between both doses.
